Sabrina Carpenter has officially made a comeback with her seventh studio album, titled Man's Best Friend. The record's artwork had sparked an online debate earlier. However, Carpenter doubled down by releasing alternate covers and joking that the new cover was "approved by God." She also told CBS Mornings that the record was "not for the pearl-clutchers."

Mainly produced by Jack Antonoff and co-written by Amy Allen, Sabrina Carpenter's Man's Best Friend comprises 12 tracks, each delivering a sweet dose of humor, sarcasm, and more. This latest record might be a relatively bolder follow-up to Short n' Sweet, which was dropped in 2024.

Below, we rank each song from Man's Best Friend from best to worst. Read on to get insight into each song of Sabrina Carpenter's latest studio album.

Sabrina Carpenter's Man's Best Friend: each song ranked

1. We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night

Fifth track on the record, We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night from Man's Best Friend captures Sabrina Carpenter at her sharpest. The songwriting is crisp, intimate, and ironic, where Caprenter recalls trying to navigate a tempestuous, on-and-off relationship. The song is a folky-pop fusion, and it feels like the heart of the album. Sabrina Carpenter sings,

"You say we're drifting apart / I say I f***ing know."

2. Goodbye

The last track on this album, Goodbye, acts as the cathartic thread, tying all tracks within the album. Accompanied by an upbeat pop arrangement, Carpenter seemingly turns "goodbye" into a refrain with a sing-along rhythmic chorus. She says the word in multiple languages: "Sayonara, adiós… Arrivederci, au revoir." However, she finally sings:

"Forgive my French, but f**k you, ta-ta"

3. Nobody's Son

Nobody's Son is the emotional anchor of Man's Best Friend and slows down the tempo of the record. Carpenter sings about loneliness and heartbreak as a result of a failed romance with Antonoff's synthy production. The track gives the album weight, and is placed right after We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night taking the bite off the former track and opting to express musings of a wounded heart. She sings,

"All my friends in love /and I’m the one / they call for a third wheeling."

4. When Did You Get Hot?

When Did You Get Hot? is a short and cheeky highlight of the album. It might be one of her funniest songs yet. This song leans into R&B grooves, as Carpenter sings about running into an old acquaintance who has gone from "ugly kid" to "sexy man." She sings,

"I bet your light rod's bigger than Zeus's."

5. Tears

The music video for Tears was released alongside Man's Best Friend. The song has disco and funk influences. Carpenter at her best is cheeky and explicit: just like her album title, Tears is jam-packed with humorous and sarcastic lyrics like the chorus' "tears run down my thighs." Carpenter sings,

"A little respect for women can get you very very far / Remembering how to use your phone gets me"

6. Never Getting Laid

Never Getting Laid features sweet melodies but carries a curse to an ex. This acoustic track sees Carpenter singing:

"Wish you a lifetime full of happiness / And a forever of never getting laid."

The contrast between the singer's sweet vocals and the sharpness of her words makes it a standout.

7. Go Go Juice

Go Go Juice is a drinking song that features a sad confession. On the surface, it is fun and friendly. However, the lyrics reveal that she is drunk dialing exes out of desperation. The "villain" rhyme line is witty. It's a post-breakup anthem.

8. Manchild

Manchild is the lead single of her latest studio album. The country-pop track set the scene for the record's satire. It’s breezy. However, if compared to the album's deeper cuts, it feels more like an appetizer than a main course. Carpenter humorously calls out an ex with lines like,

"Why so sexy if so dumb?"

9. Don't Worry I'll Make You Worry

In Don't Worry I'll Make You Worry, Sabrina Carpenter plays the heartbreaker. She warns a new partner that she will keep him on edge. It's less catchy than the top-ranked tracks. Nevertheless, it earns points for showing another side of her persona and her clever songwriting.

10. House Tour

House Tour is built around 90s-style production and metaphorical lyrics. This song is entertaining but does not quite land like others. However, the overall vibe keeps it playful.

11. Sugar Talking

Sugar Talking is a mid-tempo track, produced by Antonoff. It critiques a partner's performative love. The song is slightly overshadowed by other relatively sharper songs on Man's Best Friend.

12. My Man on Willpower

This is an interlude rather than a full song. It is about a partner who is suddenly uninterested. Lines like "My man’s in touch with his emotions… my man won’t touch me with a twenty-foot pole" are funny. However, musically, it feels underdeveloped.
