In an Instagram story posted on Saturday, July 12, the 22-year-old singer expressed sorrow over the reported suffering of Palestinian civilians. It was her first public comment on the issue. The post has since gone viral and has attracted a significant wave of reactions across social media platforms.

One enthusiast commented:

Olivia Rodrigo has more than 36 million followers on Instagram. Her decision to wade into one of the world's most politically sensitive conflicts did not go unnoticed. Her complete statement posted through her official Instagram Stories is as follows:

"there are no words to describe the heartbreak I feel witnessing the devastation that is being inflicted upon innocent people in Palestine. mothers, fathers, and children in gaza are starving, dehydrated, and being denied access to basic medical care and humanitarian aid."

Olivia continued:

"there is no child in Israel, Palestine, or anywhere in the world who deserves to suffer through what we're seeing these children have to endure. it is horrific and completely unacceptable. to give up on them is to give up on our shared humanity. I have made a donation to @unicef to help support the victims of this horrifying situation and encourage you to do the same if you have the means."

Rodrigo concluded by revealing she had donated to UNICEF USA. She also encouraged fans to do the same. The story included a swipe-up link to the organization's donation portal.
