The Bad Blood singer, Taylor Swift, on Friday, May 9, 2025, has claimed that an attempt to subpoena her in the Lively-Justin Baldoni case has been made by Justin's attorney, as per TMZ.

The subpoena concerns the 2024 film It Ends With Us, which stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The legal conflict had begun back in December 2024.

According to NBC News, Taylor's spokesperson criticized the subpoena, saying that it is not genuinely related to the case; rather, it's about using Taylor's name to garner attention from the media and use it as 'tabloid clickbait.' The spokesperson stated,

"This document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift's name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait..."

How is Taylor Swift involved in the Lively-Justin Baldoni case?

The legal battle between Lively and Justin began in December 2024, when Lively filed a lawsuit against Justin, accusing him of unprofessional behavior and s*xual harassment. Justin had then countersued Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, in January 2025 for $400 million.

He alleged that the couple took over the film, and he also accused Lively of using her connections, including Taylor and Ryan, to make script changes, as per Variety.

On Friday, Taylor's spokesperson said that an attempt was made to subpoena her in the Lively-Justin case, calling it an attempt to use Taylor's name to gain public interest. As per NBC News, Taylor's spokesperson said this about her involvement:

''Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see ‘It Ends With Us’ until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.''

The spokesperson continued:

''Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.''

The song that Taylor licensed was My Tears Ricochet, to be used in the trailer and a scene of the film. Along with Justin, Lively had also sued the film’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, and others, alleging that they worked together to silence her and others who raised their voices against Justin's behavior on set.

Justin's legal team had called the allegations outrageous and false. He is seeking a jury trial and $400 million in damages. It should be noted that Taylor is not explicitly named in the lawsuit. There is a mention of 'Taylor' in a text message, and the court papers have referred to her as a megacelebrity friend of Lively.

The case is ongoing, and the trial is scheduled for March 2026.
