Teyana Taylor returns with new single “Long Time” — Is this the comeback fans have been waiting for?

Teyana Taylor has released Long Time, her first single in five years, and fans are excited, to say the least. In 2020, the Harlem-bred multi-hyphenate announced that she was “retiring” from music because she felt underappreciated by her record label Def Jam/ G.O.O.D Music.

Taylor, who boasts multiple talents, took a step back from the music industry and honed in on her acting skills, starring in blockbusters like A Thousand And One, One Battle After Another, Dionne Warwick’s biopic, and Netflix’s Straw, amongst others. Now, Taylor is back with an audio-visual project, Escape Room, scheduled to launch in August 2025.

The album is a follow-up to her 2020 release, The Album, which featured some of the industry’s biggest names, including Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, and Rick Ross, amongst others. It peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200 and number 6 on the Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums charts.

On June 4, 2025, Teyana Taylor dropped Long Time the lead single from the Escape Room album, and its accompanying music video. The R&B ballad details the singer’s reaction to a failed relationship.

The music video, which stars Lakeith Stanfield and Aaron Pierre, is a visual imagery of the lyrics depicting the singer’s despair over lost love and being saved as she wallows in heartbreak.

Music enthusiasts and fans of Taylor took to X to share their thoughts on the singer’s comeback track. Netizens celebrated Taylor’s return to the airwaves with encouraging words:
