BLACKPINK’s Jennie released her highly anticipated solo album Ruby in March 2025, and it has performed impressively, amassing large streaming numbers and YouTube viewership counts. Word on the streets is that Ruby now boasts over a billion streams on Spotify, and fans are happy, to say the least.

Ruby, the album, marked several firsts for the BLACKPINK member. It was her first solo release after her exit from YG Entertainment in 2023 and her debut solo studio album.

“THIS ALBUM IS PERFECTION.”

More X users praised the Ruby album, describing it as a great pop album:

“Best K-pop debut album,” @jnkchanted stated.

The mixed-genre album explored elements of pop, R&B, and hip-hop with its tracklist and featured collaborations with industry favourites like Doechii, Dua Lipa, and Childish Gambino. The Odd Atelier-produced musical project featured six tracks and debuted in the top ten category in different countries, including France, Australia, Germany, South Korea, and the United States.

Mantra, with its message of female empowerment and Love Hangover, a mid-tempo pop track inspired by Diana Ross’ song of the same name, reached the top five of the Billboard Global 200 and Circle Digital chart.

In her January 2025 Billboard cover story, the K-pop idol described making the Ruby album:

“I struggled a lot in the beginning. A few months, I would say, was just me throwing myself out there, walking into rooms filled with new people. I just had to keep knocking on the door, like, ‘Is this it?’ ‘Is this it?’ and then eventually, we got to a point where I found a good group of people that I linked with, sonically and as friends.”

On April 13, 2025, Jennie performed for the first time as a solo artist at the Coachella Valley Music Festival. Jennie will join the rest of the BLACKPINK members for their world tour starting in July 2025.
