Fans, friends, and well-wishers of Tory Lanez want him out of prison as soon as possible. The Colour Violet rapper is currently incarcerated at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi after being sentenced to 10 years in prison for allegedly shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020.

Lanez was involved in a stabbing incident on May 12, 2025, which left him hospitalised with multiple stab wounds. Following the incident, the Canadian rapper/singer drafted a petition for his release, which was circulated online.

Prominent musicians like Kanye West, Drake, Kodak Black, Ty Dolla $ign, Joyner Lucas, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Joyner Lucas have also signed their names on the petition. On Friday, May 16, 2025, Canadian rapper Drake tagged @ToryLanez on Instagram Stories with the caption:

"Come home soon,"

Drake also shared a link to the petition for Lanez’s freedom, urging the California governor, Gavin Newsom, to grant the artist a pardon. The link read:

"Pardon Tory Lanez: Urge Governor Newsom to Correct a Deep Injustice."

According to a Pop Culture and music updates account on X @Real10f1TV, the petition for Tory Lanez’s release has gathered over 240,000 signatures.

Tory Lanez was reportedly stabbed 14 times, and two lungs collapsed

On May 12, 2025, TMZ broke the news that Lanez had been involved in a prison yard attack and had been rushed to the hospital. The artist later shared details about the incident on his Instagram:

"Tory was stabbed 14 times- including seven wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus.”

It continued:

“He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

On May 14, 2025, the rapper/singer shared a petition for his release after his legal team claimed that they had come upon new evidence that suggested that it wasn’t Tory Lanez who shot Megan Thee Stallion. During the press conference, it was alleged that evidence showed that it was Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former best friend, who fired at her.

They further claimed that Lanez never shot anybody and never touched a gun.

It is important to note that large signature numbers will not guarantee Tory Lanez’s release. The decision to grant a pardon is at the discretion of the governor.
