More about the City High singer, Robbie Pardlo

Pardlo was well known for being the lead singer of the band, which also consisted of Ryan Toby, and Claudette Ortiz. Some of their hits include What Would You Do?, which peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and was also nominated at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards. Other hits included Caramel, featuring the You Got Me singer, rapper, and actress, Eve, and the 2001 City High. Despite the success the band had, they disbanded in 2003.

Although the exact cause of his death is not out, reports reveal that Pardlo was hospitalized on Tuesday due to complications from heart failure. The singer had battled drug addiction and alcoholism since his days in the band. The 2010 A&E Intervention episode, specifically the season 7, episode 9 that aired on January 25, 2010, featured Robbie struggling with severe alcohol addiction. The televised show intervention had marked a turning point in his recovery.

His family feared that his alcohol addiction would kill him, and they orchestrated an intervention to persuade him to seek treatment. The episode details how his early success affected him, which was then followed by a heartbreak and excessive partying that led to depression and alcohol dependency. He had then agreed to to get into rehabilitation after his close ones intervened.

It was then revealed that he was sober for a long time after having a brief relapse. Reports also suggest that he has been sober since around July 2010, and has since focused on family life and music-related work.

In his music career, after the band disbanded, he joined the R&B quartet First Take, where he performed alongside artists including the singer and model, Whitney Houston, and Lil’ Kim.

Other than his wife and children, Robbie is survived by his mother, Marion Pardlo, his brother, Gregory Pardlo, a poet and writer, his aunt Cynthia Boyer, and his German Shepherd, Lieutenant Commander Geordi LA Forge.
