Billie Eilish's beloved track "Wildflower" has officially become eligible for three of the biggest categories at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. It was confirmed through her official submissions list.
This has stirred notable debate online, as many fans questioned how a track from her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft could still qualify. One such netizen asked:
"How? Wasn’t the album nominated last year? (No hate btw I love this song)"
Notably, Billie Eilish's "Birds of a Feather," another track from the same record, was nominated in 2025, and many fans assumed "Wildflower" had already had its turn. However, since the song was officially pushed as a single after September 2024, it fell within the Recording Academy's new eligibility period, which is September 1, 2024, to August 30, 2025. As a result, Billie Eilish's "Wildflower" could now be competing in the above-mentioned categories.
Internet reactions to Billie Eilish's 'Wildflower' becoming eligible for major 2026 Grammy categories
Pop Base took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to share that,
"‘WILDFLOWER’ by Billie Eilish is eligible for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Pop Solo Performance at the 2026 GRAMMYs."
Fans soon gathered under the comments to discuss the news. Below are some of their remarks:
"It was released as a single after and she did not win any categories at the Grammys to technically she can submit again. Although I don’t think she should imo", noted a fan.
"These "barely songs" have rendered these awards shows tired and useless. Every artist just submits a different version of their same song over & over: Eislish: I'm bored or is it depression?. Carpenter: I'm a wh*re. McRae: I'm a sl*t. Roan: Guys, hold my drink. Grande: Watch me trill. Cat: Costume please", opined another.
"Billie Eilish eligible for Record, Song, and Pop Solo Performance? She’s basically saying, “I’ll take all the hardware, thanks.” The Grammys don’t stand a chance.", declared a third.
Others also chimed in:
"man i just do not understand why and how the grammys work the way that they do. and yes, i would say this about any artist whose album came out two years prior. how is a song from a 2024 album, which was nominated at the 2025 grammys, now eligible for the 2026 grammys?", questioned a netizen.
"Billie Eilish locking in Grammy noms already? 'Wildflower' is haunting, sure, but it's peak nepotism pop, daddy's industry pull or actual genius? We'll see on trophy night.", commented another.
"Honestly, as a Billie Eilish fan, I understand why she would submit it again, but I would get mad if any other artist did it since it didn’t come out this year…I feel like it’s kinda unfair for other artists who actually released stuff this year", shared a third.
Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas are putting "Wildflower" forward in these three 2026 Grammy categories:
- Record of the Year
- Song of the Year
- Best Pop Solo Performance
On the other hand, "Birds of a Feather" will compete in Best Music Video.
