Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae interviewed popular American singer, songwriter and dancer Tinashe in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone. They discussed pop music and the music industry in general.
Tinashe revealed that she once believed pop music was hot and interesting, but now she has come to understand that pop music is more than that.
“When it comes to like success, and it comes to like what the umbrella term of pop means, for me, I always kind of considered pop to be just stuff that was hot and felt really good and felt just relatable, catchy, cool, pushing the genre.”
She added:
“I think pop is so many different things.”
Amaarae agreed with Tinashe, adding that pop could be Afro, R&B, and house.
She added:
“You don’t know pop until it slaps you in the face.”

In the exclusive interview with Rolling Stone, Tinashe and Amaarae shared their thoughts on touring and finding inspiration for their music.
Tinashe revealed that she loved touring but found it challenging to be on tour and create music simultaneously.
“I love touring. But I have a really hard time doing both at once. Some people can make a project and be on tour at the same time.”
She added:
“I feel like I have to give all my energy to the project, and then all my energy to promoting it, and then all my energy to the tour.” She asked Amarae, “Do you like touring?”
Amaarae answered that she wasn't a massive fan of going on tour.
“I love to perform. I hate to tour. I’m a real homebody. I don’t really go out even.”
Both superstars discussed their future plans.
Tinashe said:
“Five years down the line, I think I’ll still be creating music. I still have a lot that I want to share and give and create, and achieve. I’m definitely still writing this story. Ten years from now? I can’t predict. I think it could go so many different directions. I just love creating things. I don’t have a very rigid plan. Do you?”
Amaarae revealed that she had no plans for now; however, she hoped to become an executive producer in the long run.
“I have zero plans, but what I do know is that my body can’t tour forever, so we’re going to have to call it quits at some point. I really want to get into executive production for other artists. I love having a vision and deconstructing it just to put it back together.”
