The internet and audience have been captivated by the opening night of Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The tour kicked off on April 28, 2025. The debut show's three-hour performance had a 36-song setlist, multiple costume changes, eye-catching backdrops, and cameos from her children. With all these, the concert kicked off a 32-date stadium tour across the U.S. and Europe.

The Cowboy Carter album was released in March 2024. It is Beyoncé's eighth studio project and the second act of a trilogy that began with Renaissance in 2022.

The album has mixed country with elements of blues, folk, R&B, and Americana and features collaborations with artists like Dolly Parton, Post Malone, Miley Cyrus, and more. The album went on to earn Beyoncé 11 Grammy nominations and three wins, including Best Country Album, and made her the first Black artist to take home that award.

Beyoncé began the concert with American Requiem. From there, she moved into a rendition of the Beatles' Blackbiird before shifting into a homage to Jimi Hendrix's beloved 1969 rendition of the national anthem.

On a screen behind her, this was projected:

"Never ask permission for something that already belongs to you."

Beyoncé was dressed in a white leather Mugler outfit and a cowboy hat. With her performance, she notably honored the country's Black roots.

The set leaned heavily on Cowboy Carter. However, Beyoncé also worked in fan favorites and nods to Renaissance.

Her performance of Thique blended in Destiny's Child's Bills, Bills, Bills, though the group did not officially make an appearance.

Two now-viral appearances came from Beyoncé’s daughters. Seven-year-old Rumi joined her onstage for Protector. The track itself features Rumi's own vocals. Beyoncé sang directly to her daughter, who waved and smiled at the crowd.

Newsweek reports that in a 2018 interview, Beyoncé shared:

"I was 218 pounds the day I gave birth to Rumi and Sir. I was swollen from toxemia and had been on bed rest for over a month. My health and my babies' health were in danger, so I had an emergency C-section. We spent many weeks in the NICU."

She also added:

"My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me. I am proud to have been a witness to his strength and evolution as a man, a best friend and a father. I was in survival mode and did not grasp it all until months later."

Blue Ivy Carter also took the stage multiple times. She joined her mother during Ya Ya, Sweet Honey Buckin', and Déjà Vu.

On the other hand, during her speech mid-show, Beyoncé thanked multiple artists, such as Linda Martell and other Black country pioneers. Archival footage and stylized visuals gave nods to the country's Black history.

In one dramatic sequence, Beyoncé faced off against an older white cowboy in a gun duel. She won the duel.
