Deftones have seemingly teased their highly anticipated new album, likely titled Private Music, with a major announcement or release expected on July 10, 2025.

The band shared a sign alongside Roman numerals, “X.VII.MMXXV,” on their Instagram story on June 30, 2025, that displayed the title and date of their upcoming album.

Alternatively, it could also be a new song coming on either July 10 or October 7 this year, per Louder.

According to a report by Metal Injection, the new record is being produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters). In addition, the sound is supposedly a "continuation of Ohms and Koi" as per the Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter's 2024 interview at B-Real's The Dr. Greenthumb Show.

Deftones is a metal band based in Sacramento, California. It was formed in 1988 by high school friends Chino Moreno (vocals), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Abe Cunningham (drums), and Dominic Garcia (bass), per the band’s bio in IMDb. Their last album, titled Ohms, was released in 2020.

Let us explore more about the upcoming album and the band’s career.

All we know about the career of Deftones

Deftones was formed in 1988 in California by high school friends who initially named their band Deft ones. After their formation, they began touring from Bad Brains and Korn to L7 and Quciksand. Later, after struggling for four years, they finally cracked a record deal with Maverick, according to Deftones World.

Guitarist Stephen Carpenter writes in the bands biography,

“When you’re a new band, it’s hard to convince clubs in different cities to let you play and pay you–it’s not like bands can just travel anywhere at the drop of a hat. I mean, nobody minds playing for free half the time, but when it comes to travelling you still have to pay for costs. So it adds up.”

Deftones reportedly released their debut album, Adrenaline, in 1995, which showcased their aggressive and raw sound. Over the years, the band’s original lineup, which consisted of Moreno, Carpenter, and Cunningham, underwent several changes.

They were joined by Dominic Garcia as the bassist, who later transitioned to drums when Abe left the band, a report in Affair Post stated. In 1990, Chi Cheng was appointed as the band’s bassist. In 1991, Garcia left, and John Taylor replaced him for a brief period until Abe’s return in 1993. Chi reportedly passed away in 2013 and was with the band until 2008 before he was involved in a car accident.

They have released nine albums since their inception. Additionally, they have also released three compilation albums, five demo albums, three extended plays, and 25 singles. After Adrenaline, they released Around the Fur in 1997, White Pony in 2000. The following albums include: Saturday Night Wrist (2006), Gore (2016), and Ohms (2020).

During an interview with Billboard Español, Chino Moreno spoke about the release of his forthcoming album after Ohms. He said:

“So the plan is, obviously, to have a record sometime around that time [during the tour.] It’s getting very close to being ready, so yeah, we’re excited.”

Deftones began their North American Tour in February this year, which covered major cities such as Portland, Seattle, Sacramento, Los Angeles, New York, and more.

Recently, they announced the extension of their tour with a second leg running from August 22 to September 17, covering cities like Vancouver, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Montreal, Cleveland, and Denver, per Live Nation.
