Football player turned country singer, Gavin Adcock, criticized Beyoncé's latest album, Cowboy Carter, during one of his live performances. Gavin recently entered the music industry in 2021, following a knee injury. He started his music career with a single called Ain't No Cure, and later signed with Warner Music Nashville. Four years into the music industry, he will be releasing his third studio album, Own Worst Enemy, on August 15, 2025.
The album will be released by Warner Nashville under Thrivin' Here Records. Adcock's upcoming studio album will feature 24 tracks and will be available for digital downloads and streaming. He also released one of the singles from the album titled Last One To Know.
Before releasing his single at midnight, Gavin Adcock took to Instagram to write:
"Over the last 4 years I’ve spent my life writing, traveling, and trying to find time to breathe. It doesn't always add up on paper like it would seem, but through the happiness, hard times and self destruction I've found the best part of my job is letting out music for my fans. I can't thank y'all enough for sticking with me for this long. I'm the furthest thing from perfect and I don't ever plan to be."

What did Gavin Adcock say about Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album?
During a live performance, Gavin Adcock mentioned that Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album is leading on the Apple Music country charts. In his words:
"One of them’s Beyoncé, you can tell her we’re coming for her f**kin’ a**...That sh*t ain't country music and it ain't ever been country music and it ain't gonna be country music."
Adcock took to X to post a video of himself, captioned:
"It ain’t country"
In the 37-second clip, Gavin explained why he said what he said about Cowboy Carter. Adcock elaborated:
"I'ma go ahead and clear this up... When I was a little kid, my mama was blasting some Beyoncé in the car. I've heard a ton of Beyoncé songs, and I actually remember her Super Bowl Halftime Show being pretty kick-a** back in the day. But I really don’t believe her album should be labeled as country music."
He justified his statement by saying:
"It doesn't sound country, it doesn't feel country, and I just don't think that people that have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she’s Beyoncé."
On Beyoncé's end, she has not responded to Gavin Adcock's statement about Cowboy Carter, but she revealed her inspiration for her country album on an Instagram post. She said:
"It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed… and it was very clear that I wasn't. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive."
Gavin Adcock's critique of Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter album was not received positively online. The majority of netizens were calling him out on his own Instagram posts. Some even pointed out that Post Malone did the same thing as Bey and did not receive as much criticism about it.
