Ilan Rubin is an American musician, composer, producer, and songwriter. He is widely known for his talent as a drummer and has played with various popular bands, including Paramore, Nine Inch Nails, Lostprophets, Angels & Airwaves, and more. In an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter, Rubin has been announced as the Foo Fighters' newest drummer.
At 37 years old, Ilan Rubin already has a few impressive titles on his belt. While he was playing for Nine Inch Nails, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is the youngest inductee to date. Another accomplishment of Ilan is being one of the youngest musicians to play on the Woodstock stage. This achievement is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Rubin joins the Foo Fighters two months after the band decided to part ways with Josh Freese, who took the late Taylor Hawkins' place.
Who will be replacing Ilan Rubin in Nine Inch Nails?
It seems to come full circle after Ilan Rubin decided to join the Foo Fighters as their new drummer. Two months ago, the Foos decided to part ways with their drummer, Josh Freese. Before this, Rubin was Nine Inch Nails' drummer, and now, the very same Freese is joining NIN to play the drums.
The official Nine Inch Nails Instagram account posted a story with a black and white photo of Freese. Tagging Josh in the story, they simply wrote:
"Let's f**king go."
The former Foo Fighters drummer also shared the story, taking a screenshot and posting it on his feed, followed by a lengthy statement about why he left Nine Inch Nails. Freese started by noting:
"Leaving Nine Inch Nails at the end of 2008 was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. My wife and I were expecting our third child, and I knew I needed to step away from life on the road to be home with my family. NIN was a band that left me walking off stage every single night thinking, 'That was incredible. We absolutely crushed it.' And it wasn't just a feeling, it was a certainty."
He continued:
"That level of intensity, pride, and satisfaction after each show is something I've rarely experienced anywhere else. NOW, being back on tour with Trent and the crew-helping them do what they do best night after night-is something I'm incredibly excited about. To be part of that energy again feels amazing. If you get a chance to catch one of these shows over the next six weeks, I promise, they're going to be absolutely unforgettable. Hope to see you out there."
Ilan Rubin joins the Foo Fighters as their newest drummer at 37. Already an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Guinness World Record in his hands, he continues to make history.
