British guitarist and songwriter Patrick Walden has passed away at the age of 46 today. He was best known for his role as the lead of the British rock band Babyshambles, which rose to prominence in the early 2000s. The news was confirmed through the band's social media pages and brings about an end to the voice of one of rock music's distinguished voices.

Though the causes of his demise were not verified, the statement posted by the Babyshambles team said that they were thankful to their former band member who helped them become such a popular band. The statement read:

"It is with deep regret and sadness that we share the news of Patrick Walden’s death. We feel very fortunate to have known/loved and worked with him and we kindly ask for respect and privacy during these difficult times. Peter, Drew, Mik, Adam."

Patrick Walden's background

Patrick Walden was born on 5 October 1978 in Islington, London, and began his way to musical popularity from there. He was the guitarist of Babyshambles, and Walden perfected his talents in the London music circles before becoming the hit guitarist known by the fans.

Having played the guitarist of the Babyshambles in their early life, Walden contributed to the shaping of the unique sound of the band. Before Babyshambles, his resume listed bands such as Fluid, The White Sport, and Six Cold Thousand, which were important milestones in his career as an artist.

Patrick Walden joined Babyshambles in 2003 upon the insistence of Pete Doherty, who was the frontman of the band. The band's formation ushered in an era of huge success for the members, with their debut album Down in Albion becoming a hit with the masses. The albuum included some iconnic songs like "F**k Forever,” “Pipedown” and “Loyalty Song”, and peaked at No. 10 on the UK charts.

However, in a cruel twist of fate, Patrick Walden had to leave the band in December 2005 just as they were catching on with the masses. The reasons for his departure stemmed from his addiction struggles, which were well documented. Legal issues, including an assault charge (later dropped), further complicated his life and career. He did make a brief return to the band in early 2006, but her later left the band for good.

He was subsequently replaced by Mick Whitnall for the Babyshambles' next album, but the band was never quite able to reach the same heights again. Fans' demand and pleas for Walden to rejoin the group fell on deaf ears, although he did join the group on special occasions to relive the olden days.

The untimely death of Patrick Walden has shocked the music industry, with musicians and music enthusiasts across the world giving their condolence messages. From his early days in London’s music scene to his time with Babyshambles and beyond, Walden created a body of work that, while not vast, is certainly significant.
