The feud between West Coast battle rapper Daylyt and East Coast rapper Joey Bada$$ started in early 2025. It grew out of a new wave of East Coast vs. West Coast rivalry. JoeyBada$$ first released tracks that called out several West Coast artists. One of them was Daylyt, known for both his battle rap and studio work.

Since then, both rappers have released diss tracks. Each song includes more personal and intense lyrics. The situation got more attention when Daylyt released a song called “WRD2MIMVA” on May 19, 2025. That track included a line about Capital Steez, a close friend of Joey Bada$$, who died by suicide in 2012.

Fans and other artists have reacted strongly to this feud. Some support the battle as part of hip-hop culture. Others think it has gone too far, especially with the mention of personal tragedies. The following explains how the feud started, what’s been said in the songs, and who else is involved.

Joey Bada$$ first dropped a freestyle on Red Bull’s platform. He followed up with a song called “The Ruler’s Back.” In both tracks, he made comments aimed at West Coast rappers. Daylyt was one of the names he mentioned. His lyrics suggested that the West Coast scene lacked lyrical skill.

Daylyt responded soon after. Known for his creative bars, he dropped several tracks, including “HIYU” and “Backpack.” These songs pushed back at Joey’s claims and showed off Daylyt’s own skill. The tension began to grow, especially online, where fans debated who was better.

The back-and-forth continued with more tracks and online posts. What started as friendly competition began to feel more personal. Fans on both sides took strong positions. The feud grew beyond the two artists and became part of a larger conversation about East vs. West in hip-hop.

On May 19, 2025, Daylyt released “WRD2MIMVA.” The track included strong language and direct shots at Joey Bada$$. But one line in the song stood out more than the rest. Daylyt referenced Capital Steez, a member of Joey’s Pro Era group who died by suicide. As per a Reddit thread, Daylyt said:

"If the world knew what n****s knew about you, they would jump off a bridge too."

This line upset many fans. They saw it as disrespectful and hurtful. Mental health and suicide are sensitive topics. Many believed that bringing up Steez’s death in a diss track crossed a line. Social media platforms were filled with criticism of Daylyt’s lyrics.

Daylyt has not apologized or responded directly to the backlash. Some fans argue that rap battles often include tough lines. Others say this was different because it involved a real-life tragedy. The moment changed the tone of the feud and made it more serious.

Who else is involved in the feud now?

Other rappers have now joined the feud. West Coast artists like Reason, Ray Vaughn, and Az Chike have each released tracks supporting Daylyt. They also used the moment to defend the West Coast rap scene. These songs include their own disses aimed at Joey Bada$$ and the East Coast style.

Reason, who was once part of Top Dawg Entertainment, put out a strong response. He focused on defending the West Coast and called Joey’s lyrics weak. Ray Vaughn also made statements in his music and on social media. Both rappers said that Joey was disrespecting the entire West Coast scene, not just Daylyt.

As more rappers get involved, the feud has turned into a larger East vs. West conflict. Fans are now waiting to see how Joey will respond. So far, his replies have stayed within the limits of music and lyrics. But with the emotional nature of Daylyt’s last track, things may change.
