American actress and singer Hayley Kiyoko is planning her wedding to her fianceé of seven years, Becca Tiley. In the November 5 episode of the Zach Sang Show, Hayley revealed that she didn't have any dreams of getting married, adding that it was illegal for her to get married until 2015. Kiyoko and Tiley began their relationship in 2018 and got engaged in 2025.

Speaking on the show, the former Disney star stated that she couldn't fantasize about marriage because of her sexual orientation.

“I grew up not being able to get married. So I'm not dreaming about a wedding; I'm not dreaming about being proposed to, because, legally, I couldn't get married until 2015,” she said.

Hayley Kiyoko continued, explaining that the journey has been interesting to be able to think about details entailing a wedding, for instance, a ring, after having fallen in love as well.

“So it's been a really interesting journey falling in love and being able to have, and this kind of goes to the title [of her upcoming novel], having space to actually have that dream to actually be able to think ‘What does the wedding look like? What does my ring look like?’ Because that was just never something that I like… it always came with lots of complications and hardships.”

The video description reads:

“Lesbian Jesus — so anointed by her fans — is a force to be reckoned with. Artist, actor, director, dancer, New York Times bestselling author. It’s wild! And we’ve finally got her on the couch to discuss her newest novel, the Victorian-set, YA page-turner, Where There’s Room For Us. She discusses the novel’s inception — inspired by her meet-cute with her now fiancé Becca Tilley (of The Bachelor) — and we find out all about her proposal too.”

It elaborates on the discussion that took place between the host and Kiyoko, covering topics such as the contemporary music industry, her upcoming novel, and the singer's creative upbringing, among many others.

“We discuss all of that, not to mention her upbringing in a creative household, the landscape for musicians these days versus even ten years ago, and also the landscape for queer artists, plus so much more. Make sure to check out the audiobook as well because Kiyoko’s got none other than actor Jemima Kirke voicing the character of Freya.”
