Kanye West and Lady Gaga's Fame Kills tour was canceled by Lady Gaga. The singer talked about the reason behind the cancellation of the tour in an interview to promote her film Star is Born, as per NME's article on September 18, 2018. The singer stated in that interview (here quoted as reported by NME)
"I think that everybody has a threshold and everybody’s human, and artists are human. This film also deals with mental health, substance abuse, and addiction – a lot of trauma as well, for Jackson. For Ally, there’s a suggestion of it as well, when she walks up the stairs and says to her father, ‘You know all about drugs.’"
The singer continued:
"I think it’s important to care for people and to look out for their mental health. There’s nothing wrong with it if an artist needs to stop – it’s them listening to their body and their mind […] It’s nice to be treated like a human being."
The duo's tour was canceled just two weeks after it was announced in 2009. The cancellation came after Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Music Awards. Initially, the reason for the cancellation of the tour was not provided.
The Fame Kills tour was supposed to be in support of Kanye West's 808s & Heartbreak and Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster EP. Now, a new documentary about Kanye West showcases footage of Gaga planning the tour.
In the footage, unveiled by fan X page Gaga Daily, the singer is talking about the stage placement of herself and West, with the starting position of the two being on opposite sides. The singer is heard speaking in the footage:
"Kanye starts here, right. So, he's on one of the side of the stage and I'm here on this side of the stage. And I'm trying to get to him and he's trying to get to me. He's got the same and I want the same. So he's in a dark, cultish, tormented spiritual road..."
