Singer and television personality Kelly Clarkson has joined the ranks of celebrities who have sold a stake in their work to a private equity.

According to a report in Rolling Stone, Clarkson sold a portion of her music catalog to HarbourView Equity Partners, which was announced on July 24, 2025. The deal includes her biggest hits, such as Since U Been Gone, Because of You, Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You), Behind These Hazel Eyes, and Underneath the Tree.

Explaining the reason the 43-year-old said that she is taking the step as she wants her legacy to be continued. She said:

“My music is such a huge part of my journey – not just professionally, but personally. Knowing these songs will continue to be heard and discovered by new generations means everything to me. I’m grateful to HarbourView for valuing and supporting this catalogue the way they do.”

HarbourView Equity Partners welcomed Kelly Clarkson’s partnership decision on the sale of a portion of her music catalog, with great enthusiasm. The Hollywood Reporter stated that the Founder and CEO, Sherrese Clarke of the company praised Clarkson. He said:

“Kelly Clarkson is a one-of-a-kind artist whose voice and songwriting have left a permanent mark on music and pop culture. In addition to her musical genius, Kelly is a multi-hyphenate in entertainment, which is very aligned with our platform at HarbourView which invests across the broad entertainment segment.”

For the unversed, Clarkson was the very first winner of the American Idol which aired in 2002. She was born in April 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised in Burleson, Texas, by her parents, Jeanne Ann Taylor and Stephen Michael Clarkson. Her mother was an English teacher, while her father worked as an engineer.

In 2003, Kelly Clarkson found immense success with the debut of her album, Thankful (which went double platinum) and continued to give hits. This includes her break-up anthem, Since U Been Gone, from her 2004 album, Breakaway. The hit has been co-written by Avril Lavigne, featuring as soundtrack for The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), as described on her IMDb profile.

Additionally, Clarkson’s achievements include two Grammys for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, multiple American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and eight Daytime Emmy Awards as the host of The Kelly Clarkson Show, according to People magazine.
