Peter Murphy took to Instagram on June 2 to announce that he will not be continuing with his tour in the summer of 2025. According to the post, Murphy is currently dealing with health issues that prevent him from performing. He posted:

"It is with regret that, due to recent health issues, I will be unable to perform for you this summer. I am very much saddened by this news. This situation is hopefully temporary, and we will be able to announce shows in support of Silver Shade at some point in the near future. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. Love Peter x"

Silver Shade is Peter Murphy's eleventh studio album but his first after a hiatus of almost a decade. His last studio album, Lion, was released in 2014. Murphy assured his fans by saying that he hopes the health issue is temporary and they get to celebrate Silver Shade in the "near future."

More details about Peter Murphy's health in recent years

Peter Murphy came to the spotlight years ago as the lead singer for the English rock band Bauhaus. The band is considered to be one of the innovators of gothic rock. As a band, Bauhaus had a rocky career, disbanding and reuniting over and over again. The last time the band came together was between 2022 and 2023.

But in between the years, Peter Murphy has established his career as a solo artist as well. His first studio album, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart, was released in 1986.

Murphy was supposed to perform at various festivals this summer, but due to the unforeseen health emergency, these performances may not be happening. On the same note, Peter has had to cancel many tours and performances over the years due to health-related problems.

Back in 2019, he suffered a heart attack, which caused him to postpone his residency at Le Poisson Rouge, New York. Something similar happened in 2022; Murphy cancelled his North American leg of his show because he was

"entering a rehabilitation facility to attend to his health and well-being."

A year later, he had to reschedule the Celebrating David Bowie tour because of a "medical procedure" he had to go through. Later on, it was announced that he would not be performing on the tour anymore:

"due to ill health and doctor’s orders to rest and recover."

The most recent cancellation was in 2024, which was a part of the same Celebrating David Bowie tour. This time, he was supposed to perform at UK and European venues but had to cancel due to a sudden illness.

Peter Murphy has restricted comments on the announcement post on Instagram, which means it is unclear how fans reacted to his news of canceling the summer tour and shows. Nonetheless, the lack of public feedback does not diminish the disappointment that is likely felt by longtime fans and followers of the rock star.
