Sabrina Carpenter had referenced Clairo's performance earlier in the evening by saying,

"Clairo started small… now look at her."

Although seemingly intended as a compliment, the tone was perceived by some enthusiasts as patronizing. Within the same set, Sabrina Carpenter issued an apology. She addressed the matter, stating:
