The Jesus Lizard has canceled their upcoming tour dates, which were scheduled to be held across New Zealand, Australia, and Japan, as well as the US in October and November 2025. The band took to their official Instagram page on August 5, 2025, to announce the cancellations, stating that they were canceling the tour due to a serious medical condition affecting one of the band members:
"The Jesus Lizard regret to announce the cancellation of their scheduled October 2025 dates in New Zealand, Australia and Japan, as well as their November 2025 dates in the United States. Upon the advice of medical professionals following a serious health incident affecting one of the band members, it is considered necessary as a precautionary measure."
The statement continues:
"The band would like to convey their apologies to disappointed fans and emphasize that the affected member’s prognosis is excellent. Your understanding and support are very much appreciated as always. As we cannot currently project replacement dates, refunds will be available at point of purchase."
As mentioned in the announcement, refunds for the canceled tour will be provided at the purchase point. Some vendors, such as Ticketmaster, automatically process refunds within 30 to 45 days of cancellation. However, for third-party vendors such as StubHub, Vivid Seats, and so on, ticket holders may need to reach out to the vendor they purchased their ticket from to get refund details.
The Jesus Lizard has not revealed any further details regarding who among them is ill. For further updates, interested fans can check the band's social media in the future.
The Jesus Lizard has been on tour in support of their new album Rack
The Jesus Lizard first began their tour back in 2024, when they toured across the US. This was followed by the band's tour in early 2025 across the US and Europe. The now-canceled shows were to be the latest shows of that same tour, including their first appearances in Australia and New Zealand in decades.
The band's album, Rack, was released on September 13, 2024. The album was their first album release since the 1998 album Blue. The band talked about Rack in an exclusive interview with New Noise Magazine, with band member Duane Denison stating:
"The idea had been thrown out there, since we first started playing again. But we couldn’t get everybody on the same page. Now we have. We had been getting together on the sly and coming up with new material for years, Finally, we got (vocalist David) Yow on board."
David Yow added:
"Aw jeez. I think in 2009 when we first started doing the “re-enactments” there was talk about doing it. As we were touring Europe and the United States, they were working on new material. One day, we were in a hotel room and Duane played me some of what they had. He asked, ‘What should we do with this?’ I said, ‘Let’s use it for a new Jesus Lizard album."
The Jesus Lizard currently consists of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims, and Mac McNeilly. The band previously had Jim Kimball on drums instead of Mac McNeilly during its inception, and then again in 1998 and 1999, Brendan Murphy acted as the drummer instead of McNeilly. The Jesus Lizard is best known for albums such as Down and Shot.
