Why will Olli-Pekka Laine miss Amorphis' upcoming European tour? Reason explained as band announces replacement bassist

Amorphis has officially announced a lineup change ahead of their upcoming European tour. Bassist Olli-Pekka "Oppu" Laine revealed on October 3, 2025, that he will be sitting out the European leg of the band's current tour in support of their new album Borderland.

The reason was explained in a personal statement. It was shared through the band's official social media. Laine will miss the tour due to "compelling family reasons" that prevent him from joining his bandmates for the shows, which have been scheduled across October and November 2025.

Laine mentioned that his absence will be temporary. He confirmed he will return to the stage with Amorphis on November 29, 2025, when the group begins its Finnish tour dates. Until then, Swedish bassist Victor Brandt has been recruited to fill in.

Amorphis took to their official Instagram page to share Olli-Pekka Laine's complete statement. The post read:

"Dear friends, To my regret, I have to announce that due to compelling family reasons, I will not be joining Amorphis on the upcoming European tour. Fortunately, and to everyone’s delight, our good friend and fantastic bassist @victorbrandtmusic will be stepping in."

The post continued:

"Huge thanks to Victor, don’t miss the opportunity to see him perform live with Amorphis! As things stand, I will return to the lineup on November 29, 2025, when we kick off the Finnish leg of our tour supporting the new Borderland album. Thank you for your understanding, see you soon at the shows. - ollipekkalaine"

This change comes weeks after the band released Borderland on September 26, 2025, via Reigning Phoenix Music. The album is produced by Jacob Hansen. It is the band's fifteenth studio release. Amorphis were formed in Helsinki in 1990.

The European leg is part of a touring cycle to promote the new record. Amorphis are serving as special guests on Arch Enemy's tour. Eluveitie and Gatecreeper are also on the bill.

The trek kicks off on October 10, 2025, in Stuttgart, Germany, and runs through November 15, 2025, in Düsseldorf. After a break, Amorphis will resume with Finnish dates in November 2025 before the 2026 festival appearances.
