Nitzer Ebb announced shows across North America and Europe for 2025, as well as some shows in 2026, earlier this year. However, the future of their entire tour came into question after the band's frontman and lead vocalist, Douglas McCarthy, died on June 11, 2025, at the age of 58.
The tour's future was further brought into question when, on June 13, 2025, the band canceled one of the shows of their Europe tour, a performance at the Eastside Festival in Germany.
However, Nitzer Ebb has now confirmed that the tour will go on as planned in the absence of Douglas McCarthy, stating in a press statement addressed to the band's fans and friends on June 21, 2025:
"Dear NE friends, fans and family - As some of you may have heard by now, we have withdrawn from our recent festival appearance at Eastside in light of recent events as we feel that it is too soon to do so. However, the remaining shows booked through the end of this year and into 2026 will go on as advertised."
The statement goes on:
"At the time of booking, these shows were confirmed on the provision that Douglas may not have been able to appear: whilst having Bon on lead vocals. We feel that it is the right path to honour these commitments and go forward with these shows. Nietzer EBB will never be the same without Douglas - that is a given."
The statement adds that Vaughan “Bon” Harris has already done vocals for Nitzer Ebb for years, and fans seem to have enjoyed his vocals:
"At numerous times over recent years, Bon has stepped forward to perform vocals and lead the show. All of these shows have been very well received and enjoyed by the vast majority of the audiences in attendance."
The statement also acknowledges those fans who may not feel the same connection with the band without Douglas McCarthy:
"We are aware that some long-time Ebbheads may feel that they cannot continue their journey without Douglass – and we completely understand and respect that. We sincerely hope you will hold those memories dear and cherish them always. Those of us involved with Nitzer Ebb wish to pay tribute to Douglas’ memory at the remaining performances."
Nitzer Ebb ended the statement with the news that they have been working on new music and that they are looking forward to releasing said material when it's ready. They also stated that they were deeply grateful for all those who supported them throughout the years.
