Liam Payne’s sister Ruth Gibbins shared a touching message to her late brother on June 24, 2025, on Instagram. The former One Direction singer, who tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, was featured as a judge on the Netflix show Building the Band, whose trailer was released on June 11, 2025.

On June 24, Gibbins shared the trailer of the Netflix series and expressed pride in her late brother being amongst the judges, including Destiny's Child’s Kelly Rowland and Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger.

Ruth Gibbins wrote about Payne on her Instagram Stories:

"I didn’t know whether to share this, but it felt weird when I’ve raved about Liam’s work and achievements for the last 15 years,”

She added:

"Im heartbroken he never got to see how great he is in this show. He knew he had done a good job, we all told him this when we were at filming, but watching it back, wow!"

Gibbins went on to describe her younger brother as a star:

"You’re a star, Liam, you always were and always will be. There are a range of emotions I felt watching this, but one of the main ones is immeasurable pride, always. Miss you more every day."

In a press release shared on June 24, 2025, Netflix introduced the judges of the Building The Band TV series. It included that the late Liam Payne’s family had given the go-ahead for the former One Direction singer to be included on the show:

"Nicole Scherzinger will serve as a mentor and judge in Building the Band, bringing her unparalleled expertise and personal band experience to the competition. Joining Scherzinger are guest judges Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne, whose family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion."

Building The Band follows a group of singers looking to create the perfect band. In a trailer shared on YouTube, Payne, who appeared alongside fellow guest judge, gave the competitors valuable advice on building connections using constructive criticism:

"I need to feel that connection between you guys”

He also shared from his experience in One Direction:

"To have these bands put together is not normal, we [One Direction] were put together that way.”

Following Liam Payne’s passing in Argentina in October 2024, Building The Band’s producers were reportedly devastated since they revealed that the singer wanted to continue mentoring the bands even after production ended.

Building The Band premieres on July 9, 2025, on Netflix.
