ABC's upcoming series The Rookie will feature both One Life to Live alum Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey Buchanan) and Days of our Lives alum Eric Winter (ex-Rex Brady).

ABC's upcoming series The Rookie will be quite a treat for soap opera fans. Not only is the crime drama executive produced by One Life to Live alum Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey Buchanan), but both Fillion and Days of our Lives alum Eric Winter (ex-Rex Brady) are set to star in the straight-to-series primetime show.

The Rookie follows John Nolan (Fillion), the oldest rookie in the LAPD. At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small-town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous, and unpredictable world of a "young" cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.

Winter will play Tim Bradford, an overbearing training officer, while Dark Matter alumna Melissa O'Neil has been cast as Lucy, a rookie cop in the LAPD who struggles with a domineering training officer and might be developing a budding romance with Nolan. In addition, Afton Williamson will play Talia Bishop, a newly promoted training officer whose first assignment is Fillion's forty-year-old rookie.

After leaving OLTL in 2007, Fillion went on to find primetime success in shows like Castle, Desperate Housewives, and Modern Family. Fillion's new series may help to lessen the sting some fans are still feeling following the seemingly unnecessary cancellation of Castle in 2016.

Winter left DAYS in 2005 and landed major projects like Brothers & Sisters, The Mentalist, GCB, and Rosewood.
