The upcoming fourth film has added a familiar face to the franchise: Jonathan Groff (ex-Henry Mackler, One Life to Live) has signed on to the movie that stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Life is looking good for One Life to Live alum Jonathan Groff (ex-Henry Mackler). In addition to currently starring on Mindhunter, the actor has just signed on for a role in the much-anticipated film The Matrix 4.

Groff will be joining original cast members Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith for the film, but details about the plot remain scarce.

The original Matrix trilogy follows computer hacker Thomas Anderson (Reeves), who goes by the hacker alias Neo. Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) opens a path revealing the truth about the world around him. Joining Morpheus is Neo's primary contact Trinity (Moss) and the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar, all of whom guide Neo to his destiny as the savior of humanity and the One who will end the war between humanity and the machines.

Lana Wachowski, who together with her sister Lily Wachowski wrote and directed the first three Matrix films, is returning to direct the fourth installment. Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell will be cowriting the film that begins production in early 2020.

Groff got his start in the entertainment industry with the role of OLTL's Henry in 2007 -- an experience he recently admitted he hated. The actor went on to star in shows like Boss, Glee, Looking, and Mindhunter, as well as voicing the character of Kristoff in Disney's Frozen and Frozen II.

In 2016, Groff received a Tony Award nomination for his performance as King George III in the Pulitzer Prize-winning production of Hamilton on Broadway. He made his Broadway debut as Melchior in Spring Awakening, for which he received a Theatre World Award, as well as Tony, Drama Desk, and Drama League Award nominations.
