The Met Gala is always held on the first Monday of May, and this year it falls on May 5. While netizens are eagerly waiting for the invited celebrities to make their way down the red carpet, there are a few big names in the industry who are officially and unofficially banned from the Met Gala. If you are curious to know who they are, keep reading.

The Met Gala is an event that was started to raise funds and acts as a charity event for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year, the Gala will be co-chaired by Vogue's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, and Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. LeBron James serves as an honorary chair.

The theme for this year's gala is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," and everyone is expected to follow the dress code "Tailored for You." The Met Gala will start today at 4:30 p.m. EST.

Which celebrities are banned from the 2025 Met Gala?

Here is a list of some of the celebrities who are not invited to the 2025 Met Gala, in case you were waiting to see their look for the event.

Tim Gunn

This may not be surprising to many since the Gunn vs. Wintour feud has been brewing since 2010. The reason that led to the two individuals openly disliking each other goes back to when Gunn was asked about "the most unforgettable moment he’d witnessed in fashion," he revealed:

"That’s easy, it was seeing Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two large bodyguards after a fashion show," the television personality and author answered.

Ever since this incident, Anna Wintour and Tim Gunn's relationship has been impacted.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump was officially banned from the Met Gala by the editor-in-chief herself during The Late Late Show with James Corden. The Met Gala is supposed to be an event of "creativity, inclusivity, and progressive values," which is something Trump's legislation does not truly reflect. Although Wintour herself never stated the exact reasons, she has always expressed her dislike for Trump's policies and way of administration.

Lili Reinhart

Another big celebrity who will not be walking down the red carpet this evening is Lili Reinhart. Although the Riverdale actress never directly butted heads with Wintour, she suspected that her commentary regarding another significant individual is the reason why she will not be invited to the Gala again. Reinhart said during an interview with W magazine:

"I don’t think I’ll be invited back, I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress," the actress referred to Kim Kardashian following a diet to fit into the Marilyn Monroe dress.

Rachel Zoe

American fashion stylist, businesswoman, and author Rachel Zoe Rosenzweig is another prominent individual who will not be present at the 2025 Met Gala. According to reports, she is banned indefinitely for making a statement in relation to Anna Wintour. During an interview with The New York Times in 2027, the designer said,

"Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say I’m more influential. As great as it is, Vogue won’t change a designer’s business."

Rebecca Minkoff

Fashion designer and businesswoman Rebecca Minkoff has never been to the Met and suspects that she was unofficially banned from the event because of an encounter with Wintour years ago. During an interview with the Two Ts in a Pod podcast, Minkoff humorously said:

"You’re not allowed in the elevator with Anna… I was told if she gets in, you can’t. I’m still overthinking it 15 years later. Maybe that’s why I’ve never been invited to the Met Gala."

Josh Harnett

The last person on this list is Verity actor Josh Harnett. Harnett was not officially or unofficially banned from the gala. However, during The First Monday in May documentary, a Vogue staff member brushed off the actor's attendance during a behind-the-scenes moment. Designer Calvin Klein mentioned that he was interested in styling the actor for the event, to which the staff replied:

"What has he done lately? Nothing. You guys are all set."

The Met Gala continues to be the pinnacle of fashion in the Western world; however, not everyone is on the guest list. The celebrities mentioned on the list have either been directly banned by Anna Wintour or found themselves excluded due to past controversies, offhand remarks, or simply due to fashion world politics.
