After keeping the blocked-color G logo for almost ten years, Google has given it a new and fresh look. While the previous logo followed blocked-colored sections in red, yellow, green, and blue, forming the letter G, the new logo shows the same colors in the same place with merged blurred lines that blend into each other. The overall logo features a gradient effect.
Google has updated its main logo eight times since its registration in 1997. Since the beginning, the company has aimed to keep its design fresh and modern. Each logo update has also focused on maintaining the four-color scheme.
The logo’s designer, Ruth Kedar, also shared her vision by explaining:
"I searched for a typeface that on one hand evoked the traditions of the past while also being forward looking. When I came upon the font Catull, I loved the nod to traditional typefaces, but at the same time how the lightness, elegance, precision of its lines, and its proportions deviated from traditional serifs fonts."
As per Ruth, the idea behind Google’s playful colors was to make the site feel friendly and fun so people wouldn’t feel scared to use the new technology. She further added the statement:
"From there, the use of primary colours – red, blue, and yellow – was an obvious choice, as it is often used in early childhood development toys"
