The Met Gala is a fashion extravaganza that unites influential figures from all around the globe to make a statement and pay homage to the ever-evolving narrative of fashion. While the Met Gala is marked by its extravagant gowns, the men at the Met Gala have no right to be cut out from popular discourse and have increasingly made their presence felt over the last few years.
From Pharrell Williams donning a sculptural black coat at the 2023 Met Gala to Lil Nas X's 2021 appearance in a Versace ensemble, the event has continually provided a canvas for expression and experimentation. This year's Met Gala also had a theme: Tailored For You, and complements Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which Vogue describes as:
"Superfine: Tailoring Black Style will explore the role of sartorial style in forming Black identities, focusing on the emergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy. Composed of clothing, photographs, fine art, historical texts, and artifacts, it’s the first Costume Institute exhibition to focus on menswear since 2003’s “Men in Skirts” and was inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity."
