Tina Knowles appeared on the Sherri Shepherd podcast recently and discussed her grandchildren’s appearance at Beyoncé’s recently concluded Cowboy Carter Tour. She also discussed Rumi’s first appearance on the stage and Blue Ivy’s advice to her younger sister.

When asked whose idea it was to let Rumi on the stage, the 71-year-old mother of two replied that it was Rumi’s.

“Who do you think? Rumi’s! Listen, Rumi has been asking for the last three or four years, ‘I’m ready Mama, I’m ready!’ And her mom was like, 'Well, this is a song where you can come out and be yourself on.’”

She shared the advice Blue Ivy gave her younger sister after her first appearance.

“And listen, she would come out, and the first night, she was so excited. People were making all these crazy comments. And Blue was like, ‘Rumi, you might need to calm it down,'”

Tina shared that raising her grandchildren wasn't hard.

“Well, you know it's not hard because their mothers have been taught to be grounded and not to get too caught up in all this superficial stuff.”

She added:

“I mean, it's great to have a career and be loved for that reason, but it's way better to be loved because you are a good person.”

Tina taught Blue Ivy how to handle the harsh criticism she faced after her first appearance at her mom’s Renaissance tour.

“Because you have to be taught that. Kids don’t learn it from just accident. You have to say to them, ‘It’s more important to be a good person.’ And that you got to work for what you get.”

Tina Knowles added:

“Nobody’s going to just hand it to you because you are somebody’s daughter or because they like you. You have to work hard.”
