Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was released from jail on Monday, August 4, 2025. He was arrested on multiple weapons-related charges, as per the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
His agent, Ron Butler, stated that the charges levied against the NFL player (for possessing five firearms, including two assault-style rifles) have been dropped by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh has also expressed support as Denzel Perryman prepares to rejoin his team and family.

According to a report in The Athletic, Perryman’s “case was sent back to law enforcement for further investigation,” a spokesperson for the L.A. District Attorney’s Office said. He was due to appear at Inglewood Municipal Court on Friday, August 8, 2025.
He was arrested on the evening of August 1, 2025, by South Los Angeles Station deputies for vehicle code violations. Here is what we know.
Denzel Perryman arrested for vehicle code violations
Thirty-two-year-old Denzel Perryman was taken into custody by police officials on Friday, August 1, 2025, during a traffic stop after they discovered five firearms, including two assault weapons, in his car. According to a report in the Associated Press, he was booked on felony charges for possessing assault weapons and held without bail at the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station.
However, prosecutors filed no charges, and his arrest has been listed as a detention in the jail records instead of a full arrest. He was reportedly released on August 4, 2025, in the afternoon at around 1:00 p.m.
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh, who visited him on Sunday, said that Perryman was in good spirits. He said:
"I love Denzel. He's always done right. He's never been in trouble. Got a beautiful family, and we'll let the due process play out."

Perryman met his wife, Cassie-Raye Stuart, at a sports bar in Coconut Grove. She is a former field hockey player from Rhode Island. However, they didn’t fall for each other at the time. In an interview with the Miami Herald, Stuart recalled their first meeting and said:
“I’m not from here and I didn’t go to school at UM so I didn’t know anything about him and I didn’t care. When you work at a sports bar you get a lot people asking for your phone number, and at first I didn’t want a lot to do with him.”
Their romance blossomed when they started speaking over the phone. They eventually started dating. The couple welcomed their first child, Ella Grace Perryman, in 2014. Denzel Perryman is also a father to another daughter and has often spoken about taking trips and making memories with them.
As per the NFL website, across 10 NFL seasons, Denzel Perryman has recorded one Pro Bowl selection, amassing 717 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and five interceptions throughout his career. He is reportedly in his second stint with the Chargers, having played for the team since 2015.
