Clemson University suspended one of its employees after social media posts of them reportedly mocking Charlie Kirk’s murder surfaced. Two days earlier, Clemson College Republicans began alerting the institution to posts from some members of the faculty about Charlie Kirk’s murder.

Some of the staff members implicated in the incident included two assistant professors. President Donald Trump had reshared a tweet from the Clemson College Republicans calling for a “special session” to address the matter.

The university’s management, in a press release on X, shared that investigations into the posts were still being made:

"Clemson University continues to thoroughly review the inappropriate social media content posted by employees in response to the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. As stated previously, the University will take decisive and appropriate action in cases where speech is not protected under the U.S. Constitution and the First Amendment."

They added:

"Effective immediately, an employee has been suspended pending further investigation into social media posts. This action reflects the seriousness with which Clemson approaches violations of its standards and values. As this is a personnel matter, no further details will be disclosed at this time. Clemson University remains committed to upholding the principles of the U. S. Constitution and the employment laws of the State of South Carolina."

“I think they need to talk to the professors, look at what was posted,” GOP leaders statehouse chambers react to Clemson University’s statement about Charlie Kirk

Shortly after the university released a statement announcing that one of their faculty members had been suspended following their controversial social media posts, the statehouse chambers released their own statement.

One of the signees, Bruce Bannister, spoke to SC Daily Gazette. He stated that the professors needed to explain their side of the story, after which the school could make a final decision on the matter:

“I think they need to talk to the professors, look at what was posted. The professors should be given an opportunity to explain their position, and then they should make a decision based on what’s the right path forward for Clemson.”

He added that any social media post glorifying the brutal killing of Charlie Kirk is "out of line:

“In my opinion, any post that indicates this was acceptable behavior is out of line.”
