Elon Musk appeared with a bruised eye at the White House press conference
On Friday, May 30, 2025, a press conference was held at the White House as a farewell to Elon Musk's official role at the Office. Musk appeared wearing a shirt that read 'The DOGEfather' and a hat that had 'DOGE' written on it. However, what caught the attention of reporters was his black eye.
He then said that he got the bruise by horsing around with his son. He said,
''I said, ‘Go ahead and punch me in the face,’ and he did.''
Trump then added, saying,
''That was X that did that? ...X could do it. If you knew X.''
Musk then said that he didn't feel the punch at the time, but the bruise appeared later. He also joked with the reporters, saying that he wasn't anywhere near France when it happened, referencing the viral video showing French President Emmanuel Macron's slapping incident with his wife.
During the press conference, Donald Trump praised Elon for his leadership role, and Musk also emphasized that the DOGE's mission would be ongoing. To appreciate Musk's contributions, the US President presented him with a large ceremonial key, which was emblazoned with the White House insignia. He stated it was reserved for 'very special people,' as per the Business Insider.
Although it was a formal departure for Musk, Trump indicated that Musk would still continue to be an informal adviser. Trump also said that Elon was 'not really leaving' and that his DOGE team would be staying on his administration. Trump said,
''Elon is really not leaving. He’s going to be back and forth. I think I have a feeling it’s his baby, and I think he’s going to be doing a lot of things.''
During the press conference, Musk was questioned about the New York Times article, which alleged that he used drugs like ketamine and ecstasy during his tenure. Musk dismissed the claims and criticized the publication for sensationalism, as per The Guardian.
Although the press conference was for the farewell of Musk, it reaffirmed that his influence would continue under the Trump administration.
