A tweet has been circulating on X of Pope Leo XIV allegedly reposting a tweet about Kanye West’s album Jesus Is King. The tweet shared by @AkademiksTV on May 10, 2025, claims that the Pope reposted the news of Jesus Is King debuting atop the Billboard 200 chart.

A quick search through the new pope’s personal X account, @drprevost, will confirm that he never reposted such a thing, and the viral tweet is likely doctored to stir up controversy. Jesus Is King is the ninth studio album of controversial rapper Kanye West.

It follows a Christian theme and starkly contrasts with West’s previous albums. It was released on October 25, 2019, and became West’s ninth consecutive album to debut atop the US Billboard 200.

Pope Leo XIV has been critical of President Trump's administration on his X account

From a survey of the newly appointed Pope’s personal Twitter account @drprevost, one would learn that he has been vocal about his criticism of some of the policies of the United States government.

His most recent post on X was a repost of a statement from Catholic commentator Rocco Palmo. The latter criticized Trump’s alliance with Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador, on the deportation of illegal immigrants:

"As Trump & Bukele use Oval to Feds' illicit deportation of a US resident (bit.ly/3ROMjnP), once an undoc-ed Salvadorean himself, now-DC Aux + Evelio asks, "Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?"

On February 3, 2025, Prevost shared a link to an article by the National Catholic Reporter titled “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to list our love for others.”

The article refers to and contradicts a statement made by the Vice President during a Fox News interview on January 29, 2025. JD Vance stated the following:

"There's a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then, after that, you prioritize the rest of the world. A lot of the far left has completely subverted that."

In 2017, during Donald Trump’s first term in office, Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Prevost, was also critical of the US government's refugee ban policy.

Leo XIV was elected Pope in the conclave held on May 8, 2025. His inaugural mass is scheduled for May 18, 2025, in St. Peter’s Square at 10 am Roman time.
