Sean 'Diddy' Combs officially confirmed on May 1 that he turned down a plea deal ahead of his upcoming trial on s*x trafficking charges. The trial is set to begin with jury selection on May 5. Sean 'Diddy' Combs' s*x trafficking case is being overseen by Judge Arun Subramanian in the Southern District of New York.
When asked by the judge whether he had rejected the plea deal, Diddy confirmed the statement with,
"Yes, your honor."
The details of the plea deal have not been revealed. As per defense attorney Marc Agnifilo, Combs' legal team consulted with him about the plea deal, and they all agreed to turn it down.
The trial is set to begin on May 5, with jury selection happening that day. Jurors can discuss sensitive issues privately with the judge, keeping it away from the media houses. As per NBC News, two new defense lawyers have also joined Combs’ team, one of whom is Xavier Donaldson.
Lisa Bloom and Douglas Wigdor speak out against Combs in ongoing legal battle
In the Sean Combs case, Lisa Bloom represents Dawn Richard and a John Doe, who have filed separate lawsuits against Combs, alleging abuse and misconduct. Douglas Wigdor is representing Cassie Ventura's case, who accused Diddy of emotional and physical abuse.
In a statement given on May 1, Bloom said,
"How hypocritical that Mr. Combs and his attorneys, having made public statements many times, now want to silence me. Accusers and their attorneys have every right to speak out. I am very proud to represent my brave clients, Dawn Richard and John Doe, in litigation against Mr. Combs. I look forward to attending Mr. Combs’ upcoming criminal trial in New York and continuing to advocate for my clients consistent with the law and the ethical rules."
Douglas Wigdor also spoke out against Combs' gag order in a statement,
"We will vigorously oppose the motion seeking an extraordinary sweeping gag order as it is an obvious attempt at controlling and silencing victims and their counsel in contravention of well-established legal and ethical precedent,” he said in a statement. “Given this, it should come as no surprise that Combs fails to cite even one case to support his request."
In September 2024, police arrested Sean Combs after raiding his home. He has been in jail since then and is reportedly facing five federal charges. A guilty verdict could mean decades behind bars for the music mogul.
