Elon Musk claims AI and Robots will enable abundance for everyone, sparking online debate

Elon Musk is known for sharing his views about the future of AI and what that entails for humanity. Recently, the world’s richest man took to his official X account to share his latest thoughts about the fast development of AI. He tweeted:

“The future is going to be AMAZING with AI and robots enabling sustainable ABUNDANCE for all!”

Elon Musk is very optimistic about the future of AI and humans. In a recent appearance on the People by WTF podcast, the Tesla founder shared that he believed that with the improvement of AI, money would no longer be relevant and would certainly fade into nonexistence.

He said:

“I think money disappears as a concept, honestly,” he began. “It’s kind of strange, but in a future where anyone can have anything, you no longer need money as a database for labor allocation. If AI and robotics are big enough to satisfy all human needs, then money is no longer necessary. Its relevance declines dramatically.”

Elon Musk’s latest tweet about an ‘amazing’ future with AI has brought about mixed reactions on X, with many questioning the idea of sustainable abundance and others supporting it.

Netizens react to Elon Musk’s recent tweet

On Thursday, the SpaceX founder took to his X account to share his optimistic view on the future of AI and how he believes it would impact humanity at large. Elon Musk’s idea didn't sit right with a lot of people; several netizens took to his comments section to challenge his opinion.

@Road3780 commented:

“I use to think the same thing Elon. Post-scarcity is true, but only with the benevolence of those in power will the citizenry see it...We are at their mercy and they are not merciful. As the world has increased in efficiency, optimization and automation over the last 80 years....western people have seen a decrease in quality of life....not increase. AI and robots will only increase the dominant hold the ruling class has over the citizenry. And the more power they hold over us, the more they will exploit us.”

Another X user @heywildrich stated:

“Won’t the people who own the AI and robots get all the benefits? Where does the abundance come from? I’m missing something. Why would people who built robots share the profit from the robots with everybody else? When does that happen?”

@gmiller added:

“AI and robots ain't gonna pay our mortgages or kids' medical bills. Nor will the AI industry. Nor will the government. 'Abundance' in the abstract sounds nice. But how exactly will that trickle down to ordinary working families impoverished by AI job losses?”

However, not all netizens were against Elon Musk; some believed that AI’s development would be a good thing for humanity.
