Bunnie Xo has faced backlash over what Netizens regarded as a relapse from her sobriety. The podcast host was seen in a video drinking wine during her vacation with husband Jelly Roll in Italy, and some thought she had broken her years-long commitment to staying sober.

Bunnie Xo addressed the controversy on the September 15, 2025, episode of her podcast The Dumb Blonde podcast. She reminded her listeners that she had never had a drinking problem:

"A lot of people think that I was an alcoholic in my former life, and I that wasn't my drug of choice. My drug of choice was cocaine and Xanax; those were my vices. Alcohol was just always prevalent because I grew up in Vegas; I never had a problem with that."

Burnie Xo added that she only drinks “like once every five years,” whilst adding that “everyone’s perspective is very different.”

Bunnie corrected the notion that she had relapsed into being an alcoholic in her podcast. The 45-year-old recounted the reason for her sobriety:

"I got sober because of my mental health. and because I didn't want drugs and I didn't want alcohol in my body anymore."

Bunnie Xo urged fans not to mimic her lifestyle, as everyone has their unique relationships with different substances. She corrected the notion that she “had fallen off the wagon,”

"Just because I can have a drink does not mean that I fell off the wagon and I'm going to be drinking every night again," she continued. "Whereas somebody who is really battling that demon could see me drinking and be like, 'Oh, well, if she did it, I did it,' and then completely wrecked their entire sobriety. Please don't do that."

Bunnie revealed that she posted the video of herself drinking on Instagram because she wanted to be honest with her fans and followers:

"I'm never going to mislead or pretend to be something that I'm not. And a lot of people are like, 'Oh, she only caters to sobriety when it fits her and her husband's narrative.' And it's like, first of all, I've been sober since before it was f--king cool."
