Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly parted ways after staying together for eight years.

According to People, sources said that this time they might have finally split, marking an end to their on-and-off romance since 2017. An insider shared,

“It feels final this time.”

Break-up rumors were previously sparked in August 2024, per the outlet. However, Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin were soon shut down by a representative for the Materialists actress at that time, stating that the couple was “happily together.”

A source told People in March 2024 that,

"[Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin reportedly got] engaged years ago but were in no rush to get married.”

Following the reports of their split, an insider told The U.S. Sun that Johnson was ‘desperate’ for their relationship to work out and was often left in tears by their on/off romance. However, the topic of age gap and having kids kept coming in their relationship.

Martin, who already shares two kids – Moses, 19, and Apple, 20, with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow — was not interested in having kids with Johnson. Here is what we know.

What led to the breakup of Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin?

According to a report in The U.S. Sun, Dakota Johnson was interested in growing her family and adored Christ Martin’s grown-up kids.

Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born on May 14, 2004, in London, while Moses Bruce Paltrow Martin was born on April 8, 2006, to Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin. According to a report in Hello magazine, Apple has recently graduated from high school while her brother is in college.

Johnson has discussed being a stepmother to Apple and Moses. She told People in a 2024 interview,

"I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart."

However, two topics often caused trouble in Johnson's relationship with Martin — kids and their 13-year age gap.

An insider told the outlet:

“Dakota has been desperate for her and Chris to work out for years, and every time they broke up, she was devastated and in tears. Even some of Dakota's team would have to console her when they were apart and she could never move on.”

The source added:

“She really loves him and his children, and he deeply loves her, but things were just never lining up for them and it was very up and down. They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem and she'd expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life but they discussed it.”

The source told the outlet that after having such a long-term relationship,

“ it'll be hard for both of them to move on,” but they will do it.

Reports suggested that they might not be together but plan to remain on good terms amid the breakup.

Dakota Johnson and the Coldplay singer were first spotted on a date in Los Angeles in 2017. They made their first public appearance at Stella McCartney's Autumn 2018 Collection. An insider told People at that time how they walked in holding hands.

In 2020, rumors of their engagement made waves but the couple never officially confirmed it. They were last seen together in Malibu two weeks ago, and Johnson was also seen accompanying Martin to India during Coldplay’s recent tour.
