What was the reason behind Brittany Miller's fake cancer diagnosis?

In the 5-minute-long apology video, Miller explains the reason that led her to claim that she was diagnosed with cancer. She said:

"So, back in 2017, I had extremely bad mental health. And at the time, I didn't realize how bad. But it was bad. I was depressed, I was suicidal, I was lost, I was confused, I lost my partner, I lost my job, and there was lots of things in that year that led me to be mentally ill."

Miller also expressed that she understood the reason why she did it, but she has learned from her mistakes. Her story spun out of control, with many claiming that Brittany was trying to scam people by faking she had cancer.

However, Miller has clarified that it is not a "long-running scam or a manipulative story." She also revealed that the people she told in confidence told a few others, who decided to start a fundraising page on behalf of Miller.

As soon as she found out that people were donating towards her cause, she told them to shut down the page and clearly said that she did not take "a penny from it."

Brittany Miller also said that she is trying to move on from this incident by trying to be the best version of herself. In the video, Miller also came to a point where she forgave herself for her past actions because she was mentally ill at the time.

She also apologized to the public, saying:

"I am so deeply sorry to anyone that I've upset or triggered, from saying what I said. I wasn't on social media at the time. This was years before I was even on social media. I didn't do this for likes or followers, and I know how horrible this disease is, and I know how much it affects people. So, for that, I am so so sorry."

She continued:

"I admitted what I did, and I said sorry to the people that I hurt."

Brittany also shared that a year later, everything went down, she decided to move away from her hometown so she could focus on improving herself mentally. She also mentioned that it was then she met her boyfriend, Ash, who helped her with a lot of things. It was not just him, but his family too.

Brittany Miller said about her boyfriend:

"He was my light at the end of the tunnel. He helped me be well again. He helped me forgive myself, and although I am so, so, emotional when I talk about this, I am mentally well again, and I'm so proud of where I've come from being in that dark place to now."

She reveals that she wants to be an advocate for mental health because she knows what it is like to be in a dark place.
