The 2025 Met Gala was held on May 5, 2025, and Hollywood’s finest touched down on the blue carpet as they showed off their interpretations of the night’s theme: Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Shakira was one of the gala’s attendees, and she turned up in a baby pink dress with a large train.

Her dress, designed by Prabal Gurung, snagged a lot of attention due to its colour and dramatic train. On X, some Netizens expressed that the Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker missed the theme of the event. Rapper Azealia Banks aired her opinion on the Spanish singer’s sartorial choice for the Met Gala with the following tweet:

“Shakira, I love you down, but the category was not quiceañera.”

For context, a quiceañera is a celebration of a Latin American girl’s fifteenth birthday to mark her transition into adulthood. For the ceremony, the teenage girl is usually dressed in a bold and vibrant gown made from either tulle, silk or satin.

At the time of writing, Azealia Banks' post had racked up 5.4 million views and 761 comments.

The megastar made her second appearance at the Met Gala alongside designer Prabal Gurung, who was dressed in a cream tailored jacket with floral crystal embroidery and black leather pants. Shakira, on her part, looked stunning in a pink dress that featured cutouts at the side and a voluminous train.

She accessorised with sheer black gloves and a silver chain necklace with a pink gemstone pendant. Her honey blonde hair was styled in its signature bouncy waves. She rounded the ultra-feminine look with matte lips and soft blush.

Shakira rocked a similar monochrome ensemble for her debut at the Met Gala in 2024. She wore a red strapless Carolina Herrera gown that featured cut outs on the waist, a plunging neckline, a thigh high slit and a cape with gigantic sleeves and a floorlength train. She paired the look with matching platform sandals, a diamond rope necklace, and rings.

The 2025 Met Gala celebrated the evolution of black fashion and history. The dress theme focused on eighteenth-century Black dandyism and featured prominent celebrities like Pharrell Williams, A$AP ROCKY, Colman Domingo, and Lewis Hamilton as co-chairs. Other celebrities who rocked the blue carpet included Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Dua Lipa, Sydney Sweeney, Tems, Ayra Starr and Zendaya.
