Sabrina Carpenter's appearance at Variety's Hitmakers event is going viral for an interesting statement she shared during the ceremony. She was recognized as Hitmaker of the Year at the event. She also shared advice to emerging songwriters.

The Espresso singer encouraged musicians to go for authenticity instead of following formulas, sharing:

"The easiest way to write a bad song is to try to write a hit. Write the opposite of what you think a hit is. Write what speaks to you, write something that only you can write. Write the music you want to listen to yourself. Add the weird chord progression and key change, and call men stupid in as many ways as you can."

Netizens reacted to Sabrina Carpenter's statement, saying:

"i love her hate for men"

Pop Base took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to post that,

"Sabrina Carpenter gives advice on writing music: “Write what speaks to you, write something that only you can write. Write the music you want to listen to yourself. Add the weird chord progression and key change, and call men stupid in as many ways as you can.”"

Netizens were notably quick to weigh in on the comment section of the X post as they shared their thoughts about Sabrina Carpenter's candid advice. Below are some of their reactions:

"she cleared with that last line 😭😭😭😭😭", declared an X user.
"Unleash the weird chords and the truth about men. Sabrina's advice is gold. 👑 Songwriting manual updated! 😂", shared another.
"Is Sabrina not gonna admit Espresso and Please Please Please were ghost written? No one can be that perfect, come on lol.", commented a third.

Others also chimed in:

"it is funny she says that since all her songs are about hating men and adult double-meaning jokes, even though half of her audience is young girls 😭😭", expressed a netizen.
"The funny thing is that this hoe does not even write her music 💀💀 She just goes in and everything is made for her like Katy She is a recording artist that is all No creative decisions. No writing no nothing It is all created for her That is why I am scared she’s gonna fall off", opined another.
"That is the most on-brand advice imaginable from the Queen of Witticism and the Nonsense outro. 😂 Her instruction to embrace "the weird chord progression and key change" is the actual professional advice, but the requirement to "call men stupid in as many ways as you can" is the true core of her songwriting philosophy.", penned a third.

At the Hitmakers event, Sabrina Carpenter's collaborator Jack Antonoff praised her instincts as a songwriter. He stated:

"The really crazy thing is that she can write like that. If you really believe people are smart, you can get away with things. That key change in 'Please Please Please' that is so thrilling, that is the kind of stuff that matters and is interesting."

Sabrina Carpenter also added:

"Thank you to the fans that makes these hits. Thank you to the fans that learn the lyrics and sing the songs and make them hits, whatever that means."

Notably, Sabrina Carpenter recently completed her Short n' Sweet arena tour. After the official end of her trek in November 2025, the singer shared:

"short n’ sweet tour ohhh boy this show really was everything I’ve dreamt of making since i was young. This combined with a literal house that became a home of a stage + working with the sweetest most talented hardworking souls every day, so much laughter and moments that felt straight out of a sitcom, has meant that i am feeling every bit of this ending and feeling it hard! you guys sold out every single show in some of my dream bucket list venues and reminded me each and every night why i love what i do and im so lucky to do it. I truly think I’ll look back on this tour when I am old and gray and wish i could step back into my go go boots just oneee more time."

She also added:

"every detail of this show was made with love, humor, creativity, and excitement for each crowd to step into my mind and our world for the evening, to hopefully go out for one night all dressed up however you’d like (which you nailed) and get out of your head while celebrating the good the bad, the funny and the sad! you made it so much more. this show would fall flat on its face without my audience. you accepted me 100% and i am so beyond thankful.
"Unlikely I will ever do a tour where i get to sing on a toilet again. I could never recreate it and I’ll never try! Lightning in a bottle! So many brilliant minds hard at work to build our penthouse each night, to my amazing dancers, band, crew and team that helped me create and breathe sweet life into this show, just know how i cherish you and this special show we built. thank you for taking care of each other and making this tour such a safe and beautiful place to be. :’)"

Sabrina Carpenter concluded her emotional statement, saying:

"On top of it all we raised over $1.5M for incredible organizations including @jedfoundation, @bestfriendsanimalsociety, @lgbt_national_hotline & @translawcenter and helped register tens of thousands of new voters with @headcountorg 🤍🤍🤍 If you came to see a show, if you watched and cheered us on from afar, or if you only tuned in for a 3 second position, i cannot thank you enough.
