"I have uncontrollable seizures": Michael Barrymore reveals shocking health updates about having epilepsy at 73

Michael Barrymore, the comedian, TV presenter, and influencer who is best known for light entertainment programmes on British television in the 1980s, 90s, and early 2000s, recently shared a shocking health update on social media.

The star of the comedy-drama show Bob Martin took to TikTok on Thursday, August 14, 2025, and shared a video in which he revealed that he was diagnosed with epilepsy at 73, which was caused by a mini stroke. In the post, pictures of him in the hospital were shared along with health updates, as reported by the Daily Mail. He wrote:

''A mini stroke caused me to develop epilepsy where I have uncontrollable seizures.''

What did Michael Barrymore say about his epilepsy diagnosis?

On Thursday, Barrymore shared his health updates on social media. He revealed that he was diagnosed with epilepsy and suffered uncontrollable seizures. He also said:

'I suffer from cluster seizures, which affects a quarter of people with epilepsy. It means I have more than one, usually three individual seizures in a short period of time. It's scary because there's a 40% chance of going into epilepticus which causes brain damage and death without prompt medical attention.''

He also mentioned that he suffered from several such attacks this year and has emergency medication at his place. He then added, saying that the seizures otherwise don't affect his life, but he would like to talk to people who suffer from the same on the platform.

Barrymore's career ended in 2001 after the death of Stuart Lubbock. Stuart had come to Michael's place for a party after meeting him at a nightclub. Later that night, Stuart was found unconscious in the swimming pool. He was then taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Barrymore was investigated by the police many times, but denied any involvement.
