The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is all set for launch on June 5, 2025. Amidst the news of the launch of the next-generation hybrid gaming console, there were rumors that some of the designs or visuals shown in the live gameplay demo were made using AI instead of a human artist.
Fans first got a glimpse of the Mario Kart World game during a Nintendo Direct video. It was after this that the rumors spread. However, recently, a Nintendo spokesperson addressed this rumor, and they denied the use of AI, as per Dexerto.
Nintendo responds to the use of AI in Mario Kart World
Mario Kart World is the console executive for the Nintendo Switch 2, and with the launch date nearing, fans are left in a frenzy. After the Nintendo Treehouse live stream gave a closer look at the games, rumors surfaced that certain elements appeared strange.
Fans pointed out that the texts on the billboards, and even images on the billboard, including the one with a bridge, a construction site, and even a car with large and uneven windows, appeared strange and unnatural. Hence, there were speculations all over the internet that AI had been used to create these visuals.
Nintendo's spokesperson addressed this speculation in a statement to Eurogamer. They said:
''AI-generated images were not used in the development of Mario Kart World.''
The use of AI has been a frequent topic of discussion in all creative spaces, in this context, particularly in the video gaming industry. Shigeru Miyamoto, the director at Nintendo, shared what he thinks AI would be used in the company in an interview with The New York Times last year. As per Dexerto, this is what he said:
''It might seem like we are just going the opposite direction for the sake of going in the opposite direction, but it really is trying to find what makes Nintendo special.''
He continued:
''There is a lot of talk about A.I. When that happens, everyone starts to go in the same direction, but that is where Nintendo would rather go in a different direction.''
Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, also shared his views on the use of AI last year in July. He had said that AI can be used in creative ways and that the company is working to deliver unique value to Nintendo. He had also highlighted the fact that the use of AI also raises issues with intellectual property rights.
However, as the Nintendo Switch 2 launch is nearing, fans are excited about its enhanced features, including mouse Joy-Cons, GameChat communication, and improved hardware.
