Russ is all out keeping his take about what he feels about the meaning of confidence on social media. He uploaded a tweet on December 10, stating his view on how creatives are pushed to act modestly even when they know their value.
Speaking of confidence in another tweet, he said:
"If you say “I know I’m great” you’re showing ppl that confidence can be self generated…which implies ANYONE could develop that level of conviction if they put in the work etc."
He added that many avoid this truth because it reveals their self-doubt comes from themselves. According to him, people who think confidence comes from outside often blame other reasons for feeling unsure.
Ending his tweet, he added:
"It shields them from facing the REAL truth which is “I don’t believe in myself because I personally have no internal foundation for it.”"
However, this is not the first time Russ has kept his thoughts forward in front of his fans. The artist has been known for unfiltered tweets, which have been loved by his fans.
Russ opens up on where true confidence comes from
Replying to another tweet, Russ also compared confidence to privilege, saying:
"This mindset is because people think confidence is a privilege the crowd grants, not something the individual owns."
He added it's ridiculous that others act like they have the power to give permission to another person for them to feel confident. He said it really comes down to people being insecure, explaining that if they tell themselves that confidence has to come from everyone else, they don't have to admit they don't have it inside themselves.
Russ has been a big advocate of self-confidence over the years. Speaking to Billboard in 2021 about being an independent artist and confidence, the rapper said:
"I try to go back to that 18-year-old kid in the basement just making songs and not really worrying too much about what was going to happen after that. Just having that utmost confidence and faith that everything I wanted out of life I was going to get and whatever was going to happen was irrelevant knowing it is going to happen. It’s easy nowadays."
He added that he feels strong managing his own work under his personal label and mentioned he's completely sure of himself if the track is the right one, with all the resources to deliver.
During his past interview at New York University's Steinhardt School, he claimed that he didn't become confident because he succeeded, but he succeeded because he was confident.
