In his newly released book titled You Thought You Knew, Kevin Federline says that a chaotic late-night call with Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan was a turning point in his divorce from Spears.
"I was in Miami for work, trying to stay focused on my commitments, and I got a call. It was her (Britney Spears), Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan on the line, drunk as hell, begging me to come over. I could hear Preson and Jayden crying in the background. It had to be three or four in the morning. That call was the final straw."
Kevin and Britney share two children, Preston, now 20 and Jayden, now 19. The American dancer and actor highlighted Spears' drinking as a problem in their marriage,
"I'd already seen the photos in the tabloids, the ones of her out with them all night, partying at Paris' Malibu place. But hearing my kids crying while she was doing God knows what? That was it. Any deep-seated sliver of hope that I'd held onto, that we might still somehow pull it together for the kids, died right then."
More about Kevin Federline and Britney Spears' marriage
Kevin Federline and Britney Spears tied the knot in 2004, and filed for divorce just two years after. Other than not taking care of their kids and partying often, Kevin Federline has also made other allegations against the pop star in his recently released memoir.
He accused Spears of unhealthy behavior as a mother and mentioned that Spears was drinking while pregnant and taking cocaine while breastfeeding her two sons. Federline alleges that the two sons were scared of Spears growing up,
"They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep - 'Oh, you're awake?' with a knife in her hand. Then she'd turn around and pad off without explanation."
Kevin Federline revealed that he was also supportive of a conservatorship, where many aspects of Spears' life were controlled by her father, James Spears. Spears spent 13 years under the conservatorship before she was freed in November 2021.
The conservatorship was established in 2008 with her father controlling her finances, career, and personal life. Federline wrote that he could "never fully get behind" the Free Britney movement. The Free Britney movement started out as an internet social movement under the hashtag #FreeBritney. Fans of the pop star protested for her to be free from the conservatorship.
