The Met Gala 2025 was one for the books, after generating a record-breaking $31 million hours before the main event, its attendees rocked different interpretations of the theme on the blue carpet.
This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring black style, was an ode to Black Dandyism. While Met Gala veterans like Rihanna, Zendaya, and Cardi B turned heads with their sartorial choices, debutants like Coco Jones and Doechii made good first impressions in stunning creations from Manish Malhotra and Louis Vuitton, respectively.
From Doechii to BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Ayra Star, this article ranks some of the outfits on first-timers at the Met Gala.

Style for the 2025 Met Gala debutants explored
1) Coco Jones
Starting strong in the list is the Here We Go hitmaker Coco Jones. She showed up on the blue carpet of the Met Gala in an exquisitely tailored long-sleeve coat with ornate embroidery and matching trousers from Indian designer Manish Malhotra. The coat was cinched at the waist and featured a long train. Jones' shirtless look brought attention to her statement necklace. The artist’s sleek ponytail with a gelled swoop rounded up the stunning look.
2) Doechii
After successfully rocking different looks for brands at Paris Fashion Week 2025, the Swamp princess marked her debut at the Met Gala with a bang. The What It Is crooner, not one to shy away from a gender-defying outfit, embraced the 2025 Met Gala’s theme in a coat and matching trouser shorts designed by Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton dotted with the French brand’s signature motif.
Doechii accessorised with a burgundy pussybow that matched her socks and shoes. Her Speedy bag was the icing on the cake.
3) Ego Nwodim
The Saturday Night Live star was a sight on the blue carpet. Ego Nwodim stylishly interpreted the 18th-century black dandy in custom Christopher Rogers.
The comedian showed up in a three-piece suit consisting of a cropped suit jacket, a corset with a ruffled hem, structured shoulder pads, and ankle-length pants. She accented the predominantly black ensemble with red leather pumps and a diamond necklace.
4) Shaboozey
The A Bar Song Tipsy hitmaker arrived at the Met Gala in a turquoise outfit consisting of beads and grillz. Shaboozey wore a cropped suit jacket with matching pants flared down and featuring a wavy design.
Instead of a vest, the country singer opted for a black tank with lines of beads draped from one end to the other. He topped it off with a large hat. For a more dramatic look, Shaboozey revealed turquoise-coloured grillz, presumably to match the ones draped across his chest.
5) Gina Alice Redlinger
The Chinese classical pianist turned up for fashion’s biggest night in a black-and-white dress that stylishly embraced the theme. The black corset's sharp design contrasted with the skirt's soft lace.
The skirt featured multiple layers that cascaded to the ground and a giant black train that added a dreamy touch. The musician wore a piano-themed clutch, seemingly as an ode to the intersection between black fashion and music.
Her chunky neckpiece and matching earrings added to the outfit’s elegant look.
6) BLACKPINK’s Lisa
Lisa joined BLSCKPINK members Jennie and Rosé at the Met Gala 2025. The Rockstar hitmaker was dressed in a Louis Vuitton blazer sans pants, which left tongues wagging online.
While several fans were still in shock over the K-pop idol's choice to forgo wearing trousers, eagle-eyed observers quickly noticed that the singer’s Lacey underwear included stitched portraits of different women, one resembling civil rights legend Rosa Parks.
She has faced backlash over her outfit choice.
7) Chappell Roan
The Pink Peony Club hitmaker made her Met Gala debut on May 5, 2025. The pop singer chose a custom Paul Tazewell number for the occasion. Roan’s pink two-piece suit complete with a blazer and a bell bottoms slit at the end.
Her outfit was lined with sequins, matching the bejewelled boots she wore. In true Chappell Roan fashion, she wore bold and heavy makeup, which she complemented with her red curls.
Not many were impressed with her look for the event, with some arguing that she was channelling Elton John instead of the Black dandy. The Cut Magazine ranked Roan’s outfit amongst the worst for the night.
