Spotify and ChatGPT have officially teamed up for something new, and the internet has been buzzing with notable reactions from enthusiasts.

Starting this week, users can ask ChatGPT to create personalized playlists inside their chat window. The integration was announced at OpenAI's 2025 DevDay event. It will allow Spotify Free and Premium users to connect their accounts and generate custom playlists, recommendations, and podcast suggestions.

Netizens reacted to this latest partnership, writing:

"bro my playlist about to get existentially roasted"

The streaming platform issued an official press release to launch the new integration. It read:

"Spotify is everywhere you listen (and watch): in the car, on your TV, and even while gaming: with integrations across more than 2,000 devices. Every listener’s journey is unique; that’s why we have built Spotify to be never more than a tap away from your next favorite track, playlist, or podcast. Now, Spotify can join your ChatGPT conversations, too. Starting today, both Free and Premium users can bring Spotify into their ChatGPT conversations to receive personalized music and podcast recommendations."

Pop Base took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to post that,

"Spotify teams up with ChatGPT to offer personalized recommendations."

Netizens were notably quick to jump into the comment section of the X post as they penned their opinions about the new partnership. Below are some of their remarks:

"It now knows your music taste better than your therapist", joked a netizen.
"Yeah, who needs clean drinking water and livable temperatures when you could have a worse, harder to use recommendation system", added another.
"Or you could just take a risk and listen to something new. This is a big step in making sure all artist are industry plants 😔", commented a third.

Others also chimed in:

"you will only be recommended what fits the algorithm’s goals, not what’s actually organic. The algorithm does not care about what’s authentic, it pushes whatever’s already performing well and guess who has the money to boost performance? Record Labels.", penned an X user.
"Finally playlists that understand my mood swings and my market swings haha", stated another.
""For those who are bragging about AI being useless, let me tell you it's such a great feature. Earlier when you asked GPT about similar suggestions of your favourite song, it used to give a list which you had to manually check. Now, it can organise playlists and save that manual labour of yours. Actual functionalities might differ but I'm damn sure it will be a great feature.", noted a third.

How to use the new feature

Users can try the new integration through the following steps:

  • One needs to start a conversation in ChatGPT and mention the audio streaming platform's name.
  • The user will be prompted to connect their Spotify account the first time.
  • Once connected, the user can ask ChatGPT to play, find, or create playlists.
  • One can also specify moods or themes. For example, "make a playlist for my weekend road trip with 2000s hits" or "Find podcasts about space exploration."

ChatGPT will then surface the best matches to create a personalized playlist. Notably, OpenAI says more app integrations are coming soon. Partners like Booking.com, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, and Zillow are currently active. According to reports, future additions are expected to include Uber, Peloton, TripAdvisor, DoorDash, and Target.
