Britney Spears isn’t holding back from expressing her emotions about being cut off from her sons, Sean and Jayden. The Criminal singer uploaded an Instagram post on August 24, with the caption:
"We’re just people so fragile and human the hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years … I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears"
Mentioning her ex-husband, Sam Asghari, with whom Spears got divorced in 2024, she wrote:
"its weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it"
Spears shares two sons, Sean Preston Federline, 19, and Jayden James Federline, 18, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. The two married in 2004. However, their relationship ended in divorce after three years of marriage.
Britney Spears was later cut off from her children in 2008 after a Los Angeles court granted sole custody to Kevin Federline and revoked her visitation rights, following a standoff at her home, according to The Guardian.
After the conservatorship, the couple reportedly agreed on 50-50 custody. However, in 2018, the custody arrangement was changed to 70-30 in Kevin’s favor.
Jayden wishes Britney Spears the best in her marriage to Sam Asghari
While her two sons, Jayden and Sean, are not very active on social media, they did wish their mom well on her marriage to Sam Asghari. In an interview with The Daily Mail, which aired on ITV in 2022, Jayden revealed the reason behind not attending the marriage, saying:
"At the time it just wasn't a good time to go. I'm not saying that I'm not happy for her. I'm really happy for them, but she didn't invite the whole family, and then if it was just going to be me and Preston, I just don't see how that situation would have ended on good terms."
Speaking about their relationship, he also added:
"I 100% think this can be fixed. It's just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better I really want to see her again. I love you a lot, I hope for the best for you."
In 2024, Spears also mentioned her son Jayden in an Instagram post that read:
"Mine forever !!! It’s weird we’re like twins but he’s a boy and I’m a girl !!! He’s mine I hadn’t seen him in 2 and half years or maybe 3 !!! I’m in shock !!! He came back and he feels older and smarter than me !!!"
Britney Spears last reportedly met her sons at Christmas 2024. She ended her recent post about being separated from her sons by sharing that she’s healing from the trauma she experienced.
