Donald Trump recently sat down for a rare interview with 60 minutes, where he spoke on a number of issues ranging from the current government shutdown to the possibility of him running once again for office. According to CBS News, Trump, during his interview with CBS journalist Norah O'Donnell, acknowledged that many people want him to run for office. He said:"I will tell you, a lot of people want me to run"This is Donald Trump's first interview with the network after he sued their parent company, Paramount Global. This happened after the President alleged that the network had reportedly edited Kamala Harris' answer to a question asked during an interview. Although CBS refused the claim, the network, which has seen major changes in the recent months, most particularly a merger with Paramount, agreed to settle the lawsuit. According to The Hill, they shall pay $16 million to the Donald Trump library that he plans to set up in the White House. In his recent interview, the President praised the network's new merger, highlighting the reason he agreed to appear on the program. He said:"And actually 60 Minutes paid me a lotta money. And you don’t have to put this on, because I don’t want to embarrass you, and I’m sure you’re not — you have a great — I think you have a great, new leader, frankly, who’s the young woman that’s leading your whole enterprise is a great — from what I know."More from Donald Trump's interview, as he sits down for a conversation on 60 minutesIn his recent interview with 60 Minutes, Donald Trump weighed in on his possibility of running for a third term in 2028, despite the US Constitution prohibiting any individual from serving more than two terms. Franklin D. Roosevelt remains the only US President to run for a third and fourth term, doing so in 1940 and 1944. Trump said:"Well, I don’t even think about it,” he said. But the difference between us and the Democrats is we really do have a strong bench. I don’t wanna use names, because it’s, you know, inappropriate. But it’s too early.”He further added:“I like so many people. We [the Republicans] have an unbelievable bench. We could run two people together. We have a great bench. So I don’t wanna start talking about elections. It’s too early. One thing I can tell you, the 2020 election was rigged. And a lotta people say when it’s rigged you’re allowed to do it again. It was rigged. And it’s been caught. … And you see the same information that everybody else does. And it’s coming out now in spades. But with all of that, we have a great bench.”According to CBS News, the President's response comes just days after he showed more eagerness to run for office during an interview with reporters onboard the Air Force One, adding "So, we'll see what happens.” He said:"I have my highest poll numbers that I've ever had, and, you know, based on what I read, I guess I'm not allowed to run. I would say that if you read it, it's pretty clear. I'm not allowed to run. It's too bad, but we have a lot of great people."In his interview with 60 Minutes, Donald Trump also spoke about the ongoing government shutdown, adding that he was looking forward to working with Democratic leaders to end the shutdown, which has now entered it's sixth week.
