A Brazilian book influencer named Tais Bruna de Castro was slain in a stabbing. She was 36 years old.
People Magazine has reported that she was killed at a shopping complex located in Jundiaí, São Paulo, on Monday, June 2. Per The Daily Mail, she was eating her lunch at the Beco Fino shopping centre when a man approached her and began attacking her.
The killer, who has since been identified as 40-year-old Claudio Elizeu, stabbed her 20 times before he broke into an office and began vandalising it. The police eventually apprehended him.
He reportedly worked at the mall as a janitor and told cops that he murdered Tais because of unrequited love. The Daily Mail has also reported that they did not share a friendship beforehand.
Tais Bruna de Castro's shocking demise was announced on her Instagram account, Leitora Fashion, which translates to "Reader Fashion." Her family penned a heartbreaking statement, coupled with a cheerful photo of her:
"This week, our dear Tais Bruna, the owner of this profile, left us in a very sad and even unbelievable way," the post read. "Fashion Reader was one of her joys. Talking about literature, suggesting new works and chatting with you guys here made her day happier."
Her account boasted well over 8K followers as of this writing, and she also operated a fashion blog under the same name.
“We, her family, sincerely thank you for all the messages and prayers dedicated to her. Her smile, her sweetness and all the joy she always spread will remain forever in our hearts. Today heaven gained one of the most special people that has ever passed through this world. Tais, we will love you forever! ❤️.”

CNN Brasil has reported that Tais Bruna de Castro also worked at the mall as a travel agent when the incident took place. It also states that Elizeu turned himself in after the stabbing. The stabbing has also been caught on surveillance cameras.
In another post on Instagram, Tais Bruna de Castro's family issued a plea to her followers to raise awareness about her brutal stabbing:
“We can’t let her be just another case, another number. The literary community on social media, led by Tais’ friends, started the #JustiçaPorTais movement and we want it to reach even further!” the statement read. “Not only to keep the memory of our beautiful Tais alive, but also to fight for tougher laws in cases of femicide, an act of cowardice and extreme cruelty against women.”
The statement continued:
“We want life imprisonment, the death penalty and whatever else can be done against this type of crime! Help spread this message, so that our voice is heard in the four corners of the country!”
The Daily Mail has reported that Tais Bruna de Castro's stabbing follows a string of violent acts that have left several American influencers dead. Just last month, María José Estupiñán, a 22-year-old Colombian model and influencer, was shot dead by a hitman.
At the time, he approached her home under the guise of a delivery driver. The incident reportedly took place in Cucuta, Colombia. In footage captured by the CCTV, the hitman can be seen shooting at her before fleeing down the street. Her mother can be heard wailing, 'No, not my daughter!'.
